Bus Rapid Transit - Yellow Line (InfraStructure)

The BRTS Yellow Line for Karachi caters to one of the highest travel demand routes in the JICA Transport Master Plan and as such the GoS is seeking to implement the BRTS Yellow Line corridor on a priority basis. The GoS plans to shrink the time it takes for people travelling between the city centre and the densely populated Korangi industrial Area via a dedicated BRT corridor. The BRT corridor start point is Dawood Chowrangi and BRT service start point is at Mansehra Colony near Korangi and Landhi Industrial areas and terminates at Numaish Chowrangi. This is intended to cater to the travel needs of CBD to industrial zones of Korangi and Landhi. Additionally this will serve population centers of Landhi/Korangi and Akhtar Colony to Numaish and Regal Chowk.

The salient features of the Yellow Line corridor are:

  • Corridor length: 26 km (Dedicated Portion 22km with Elevated section of 4 km and Semi Dedicated section of 4km)
  • Proposed stations: 24
  • Ridership: 150,000 Passenger per day
  • Average speed of system: 25 km/hr

The Government of Sindh wishes to implement the BRTS Yellow Line on a priority basis in order to ease the traffic congestion in Karachi. Currently, the GOS is in the process of finalization of the Concession Agreement with the Preferred Bidder i.e. China National Import & Export Corporation (the CUEC).
