The Works & Services Department Government of Sindh, in association with the Public Private Partnership Unit of the Finance Department launched the Karachi Thatta Dual Carriageway Project to dualize the existing National Highway N-5 from Karachi to Thatta. The larger economic benefit of this Project is linked with connecting this corridor from Thatta onwards to Mithi, taking it further down to Islamkot and Thar carrying over all road length to 296 km.
The Concession Agreement for the Project was signed in May 2015. The financing documents were signed in December 2016 and the construction works for the Project is expected to be completed by April 2018.
